About the Defender 130

The Defender is the most capable off-road machine from a brand known worldwide for engineering some of the most innovative SUVs on the market. When it comes to the Defender 130, it is also the largest vehicle in the lineup. The Defender 130 is what you want when you need to haul absolutely all of your gear or a lot of people. Thirteen inches longer than a Defender 110, and 15.9 inches longer than a Discovery, the Defender 130 boasts a cavernous maximum cargo space of 89.0 cubic feet. It unsurprisingly offers more third-row seating than any other Land Rover with comfortable seating for 8. Choose from an endless list of accessories and customization options, all of which are also available for the Defender 130, and you can be sure to outfit it just the way you need it.

What The Critics Say

“One of the Land Rover Defender 130 X’s biggest pluses is its third-row setup. Not only is it easy to hop back there even for out of shape middle-aged dudes like your humble author, when you get back there, it’s plenty comfortable, with more than a bit of room for kids of all ages. There are cupholders and power ports at each end, a sunroof above, the seats are heated, and there are air vents. Quality stuff.”

– MotorTrend

“Despite its mass, the 130 is supremely easy to live with. The eight-speed automatic shifts almost imperceptibly, and the engine auto stop-start function works without being intrusive. This three-row SUV even handles quite well. It’s a smooth operator in almost every situation, and we didn’t expect that from something this large.”

– Edmunds

What’s New For 2026

While subtle, there are still plenty of noteworthy updates to the Defender 130 for the 2026 model year. Slight tweaks have been made to its exterior, highlighted by updated front and rear bumpers and revised headlight surrounds. There’s also a new 22-inch alloy wheel design along with two new exterior paint choices – Woolstone Green and Borasco Silver. Changes to its premium three-row interior include a new center console layout, a new gear shifter, standard Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control, and a larger 13.1-inch touchscreen display. Last but not least, the Defender 130 can now be equipped with an available onboard air compressor for 2026.

Defender 130 Features

Defender 130 Offroad

Built For Adventure

Every Land Rover is built for the road less traveled, but the Defender is built to be utterly uncompromising in this mission. With the Defender 130, you also get an uncompromising amount of cargo space for those off-road adventures that require extra gear and provisions. The Defender 130 is the only configuration where air suspension comes standard, and is also the only configuration that hits the 8,200 lbs maximum towing capacity regardless of which powertrain you choose. The two available powertrains give you the option of 296 horsepower or 395 horsepower, both of which offer plenty of get-up-and-go whether on the road or off. There’s also the range-topping supercharged 5.0-liter V8, producing 493 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque.

Innovative Technology

Part of what makes the Defender 130 such a legend as an adventure vehicle is the ability to configure it specifically for what you need to do. Buyers have more options for personalization and customization than you’ll find elsewhere on the market. there are several trims, powertrains, four accessory packs, appearance packs, and a long list of standalone options. People who need to transport animals, for example, would find the Country Pack useful, as it includes a portable rinse system and a cargo space partition – perfect for keeping muddy dogs from making too big a mess. For those who need more space for gear, there is the Explorer Pack. This comes with a lightweight roof rack, as well as side-mounted lockable and waterproof storage boxes. Naturally, both groups of people will find the 8,200 lbs of towing capacity very useful.

Comfortable Interior

Land Rover has mastered the blending of utility and luxury in a way that no other manufacturer accomplishes. So even though the Defender 130 is built for capability, there is still a generous helping of luxury to go with it. The interior is large, with the Defender 130 offering a third row that will actually accommodate adults, a rarity. All models come equipped with the cutting-edge 13.1-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen display for a truly immersive infotainment experience. Also standard are the heated 12-way power adjustable front seats, with an option for Windsor leather and even a refrigerator in the front center console. A heated steering wheel, heated washer jets, and a heated windshield are all available with the Cold Climate Pack.
