About the Defender 130

The Defender is the most capable off-road machine from a brand built on nothing but incredibly capable off-road machines. And in its 130 form, it is also the largest vehicle in the lineup. The Defender 130 is what you want when you need to haul absolutely all of your gear, or a lot of people. Thirteen inches longer than a Defender 110, and 15.9 inches longer than a Discovery, the Defender 130 boasts a cavernous maximum cargo space of 80.9 cubic feet. It unsurprisingly offers more third-row seating than any other Land Rover, with comfortable seating for 8. Choose from an endless list of accessories and customization options for the Defender, all of which are also available for the 130, and you can be sure to outfit it just the way you need it.

What The Critics Say

"In addition to the extended space, the third row offers available creature comforts such as heated seats, storage spaces, padded armrests and USB-C ports; ventilation is also offered in each of the SUV's three rows. An available four-zone climate control system can be found in the 130 that's not yet offered on other Defenders, and a panoramic moonroof comes standard with a separate moonroof above the third row."

"Whatever you call it, the three-row version packs all the goodness we love about the Defender 90 and 110 in a body with more room for people and stuff."

What’s New For 2024

No design changes to the Defender 130 for 2024, but there have still been some major changes to the trim lineup. The first of these is the all-new Outbound trim, which is exclusive to the 130 variant of the Defender. This trim deletes the third row of seats and the accompanying back windows in order to make a massive cargo area, for those adventures where the terrain won’t let you take full advantage of the Defender’s incredible towing capacity, and you need space inside the vehicle to carry your cargo. The next addition is the V8 trim, which was already available for the 90 and 110 Defenders, and of course, this also means that a V8 engine is now available for the 130. The supercharged 5.0-liter engine is the most powerful produced by Land Rover. Lastly, the First Edition trim, a limited edition that was only intended for the first year of production, has been dropped from the lineup for 2024.

Defender 130 Features

Defender 130 Offroad

Built For Adventure

Every Land Rover is built for the road less traveled, but the Defender is built to be utterly uncompromising in this mission. With the 130, you also get an uncompromising amount of cargo space for those off-road adventures that require extra gear and provisions. The 130 is the only configuration where air suspension comes standard, and is also the only configuration that hits the 8,200 lbs maximum towing capacity regardless of which powertrain you choose. The two available powertrains give you the option of 296 horsepower or 395 horsepower, both of which offer plenty of get-up-and-go whether on the road or off.

Defender 130 Interior

Configure it Your Way

Part of what makes the Defender such a legend as an adventure vehicle is the ability to configure it specifically for what you need to do. There are three different wheelbase options, and just for the 130, there are four trims, two powertrains, four accessory packs, four appearance packs, and a long list of a la carte options. People who need to transport animals, for example, would find the Country Pack useful, as it includes a portable rinse system and a cargo space partition – perfect for keeping muddy dogs from making too big a mess. For those who need more space for gear, there is the Explorer Pack. This comes with a lightweight roof rack, as well as side-mounted lockable and waterproof storage boxes. And obviously, both groups of people will find the 8,200 lbs towing capacity very useful.

Defender 130 Interior

Comfortable Interior

Land Rover has mastered the blending of utility and luxury in a way that no other manufacturer accomplishes. So even though the Defender is built for capability, there is still a generous helping of luxury to go with it. The interior is large, with the 130 offering a third row that will actually accommodate adults, a rarity. The larger 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen that is optional on other Defender configurations is standard on the 130. Also standard are the heated 12-way power adjustable front seats, with an option for Windsor leather, and the refrigerator in the front center console. A heated steering wheel, heated washer jets, and a heated windshield are all available with the Cold Climate Pack.
